There was a tweet earlier today from @alextootchie – N97: new firmware 12.0.023 available on RDA. Could the new firmware be released in the next few days? Weeks? What’s the change log? No one really knows at this point but I do hope that it will fix a lot of the issues on the N97 and add more features such as the full kinetic scrolling. I guess for now we’ll have to keep checking SW updates.

Nokiamobiletalk.com has posted Skype installer file for the N97 and 5800. However, it will only work on 3 carriar networks. I’ve tried to installing it but I can’t get passed the login screen. So if you are on any of the 3 network in HK, UK, etc. Let us know if it works.
I can only hope that there will be a full working version available soon.

While waiting for Nokia to integrate Skype hopefully by Q3, there are some alternative ways to use your Skype account. You can either create a Skype-To-Go number but that would mean you have to use your mobile minutes instead you can use third party applications such as Nimbuzz or Fring which allows you can make VOIP calls over wifi/3G. Fring is my prefered choice since I have been using it for a long time, but Nimbuzz has Skype capabilities as well. Both of these applications can also make calls to other SIP network and googletalk. ZAGG the maker of the famous invisible SHIELD is now selling the screen protector for the N97. You can purchase either the full body coverage (2 pieces front and back) or just for the screen. I have used their screen protectors on capacitive touch screen phones before which is great, but I don’t know how well they will work on resistive screens. You might be able to find them at your local mall to see how it looks and feels and have them install for you since the installation process requires you to spray on a solution.

So if you’ve been holding off this is a good time to buy since the new firmware V11 was released today that fixed many bugs users have been complaining. This firmware should have been released from the beginning. If you have Amazon prime get this phone in 2 days.

Yesterday, I received my N97 screen protector from Clarivue.com. Although it took almost a week to get it, they were one of the few online stores that have them in stock. I’ve used Clarivue before for my digital camera but not for a phone. I usually would prefer buying from BestSkinEver or Zagg (invisibleSHIELD), but they didn’t have it yet.
